A former military officer, Bill served in a variety of light infantry and airborne assignments during his 25-year career. He taught in higher education for 11 years while in uniform, with two tours on the faculty at the U.S. Military Academy and as the Visiting Professor of Military Science at Duke University.
As the Director of West Point’s Center for Enhanced Performance, Bill and his staff developed the full potential of over 4,000 student athletes through applied performance psychology training resulting in national championships and Olympic medals. They also developed and delivered performance enhancement curricula to over 15,000 Army leaders credited with improved organizational performance in combat.
Bill has been with the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) since 2008. He co-founded and serves as the Faculty Lead for CCL’s Government Sector. He manages 40 faculty members delivering ten recurring programs. Bill has designed and implemented a suite of highly-regarded programs for the Intel Community, military and other federal agencies. He co-facilitated an organizational intervention for the U.S. military and State Department in Iraq promoting inter-agency cooperation in support of national objectives.
In the private sector Bill has worked with Fortune 100 companies and non-governmental organizations with clients in the aerospace, engineering, manufacturing, financial services, energy, and consulting sectors. He has worked internationally and with participants from six continents.
Bill earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, M.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech, and Executive Management Diploma from the U.S. Army Command & General Staff Officer Course. He is certified to deliver feedback in CCL 360-degree assessments, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, FIRO®, WorkPlace Big Five 4.0™, Learning Type Measure®, Conflict Dynamics Profile®, Change Style Indicator™, Influence Style Indicator® and Hogan assessments. Bill is also a CCL feedback coach.
Bill has presented at the Association for Talent Development and other conferences and speaks regularly for CCL’s Speakers Bureau. He produced an acclaimed self-help DVD, Building Confidence Every Day. Bill has also written on leadership topics for the WashingtonPost.com and other sites.
