Here’s the thing with innovation — we disappoint ourselves by comparing our innovative efforts to our great expectations of what innovation could be at our organization.
When we asked a panel of global executives how important innovating is, 94% said it is important or very important. But when we asked how effective their organization is at innovating, the answer dropped to 14%.
That’s a wide gap, but it’s also an opportunity. It’s not that our organizations are not getting results from their innovation initiatives, or that we haven’t been trying to up our game; the problem is we expect much more.
To get closer to the 94%, we need to go beyond what we are doing today. In this article, we discuss how to go beyond words, beyond “but,” beyond ideas, beyond our innovation silos and beyond the hero complex.
