Patty Burke

Current Role

Patty is an Innovation and Venture Catalyst in CCL’s Commercialization and Innovation (C&I) Unit.  She is responsible for identifying, validating and commercializing innovative product and service opportunities.   Her first project is the breakthrough Technical Women’s Leadership (TWL) program, now being piloted in Silicon Valley.  Patty also represents CCL and C&I in the Bay Area, working closely with clients in technology, healthcare and financial services, and with Women’s Leadership and other advocacy organizations.


Patty is an experienced C-level executive who has served in operational roles with large corporations and startups and as a consultant to venture capital firms, corporate venture and innovation groups and technology startups.  She was founder and managing partner of Accelevate, an innovation consulting firm providing business model validation and innovation training for corporate innovation teams, based on Lean Startup and Business Model Canvas principles.  She also consulted for Bell Mason Group, conducting corporate innovation readiness assessments, innovation training and corporate venture capital programs. Consulting clients included Merck, Royal Philips, Barrows Concussion Network, AmEx, CitiGroup, DSM, SanDisk, Coca-Cola, Siemens, Dignity Health, McAfee, Fujifilm, Alcatel-Lucent and American Heart Association.

Previously, as Director of Product Marketing at Peter Norton Computing and as VP Marketing at Symantec, Patty pioneered the consumer anti-virus category and managed worldwide corporate, channel and product marketing.  She was the first US marketing executive for UK-based Madge Networks, growing the company by 15X over 3 years to a successful NASDAQ IPO.  As VP Marketing and the first non-engineering executive at Ramp Networks, she helped create the small business internet access category and drove marketing and sales leading to Ramp’s 1999 IPO and acquisition by Nokia in 2001. She was previously a Partner with Regis McKenna Inc. in Palo Alto and GM of RMI’s Los Angeles office.  Patty was also an instructor for the CalTech Industrial Relations Center Executive Education program.

Professional Affiliations

Patty is a member of the advisory board for the Global Corporate Venturing and Innovation Summit and is a Catalyst Award Advisor for the UCSF Clinical and Translational Science Institute.  She is also a mentor and advisor to entrepreneurial programs at California College of the Arts/Design MBA and San Jose State University Lucas College and Graduate School of Business.
