Before joining the Center, Sam advanced his experience in student leader development at several institutes of higher education, including UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, and University of San Francisco. His service has spanned the efforts of directing emerging leader programs, developing campus-wide initiatives for student leader development, and stewarding institutional best practices around leadership education. Sam has steered innovations in student development programming, especially at UC San Diego, which have contributed to the way university staff and students align their efforts to bring about greater impacts on their campus and in their broader community.
Sam has over 12 years of expertise designing and delivering experiential learning engagements for college-level students. Sam is faculty within CCL’s Leadership Beyond Boundaries team, which is committed to youth empowerment and educator capacity building. He is also certified to in MBTI, CGE, 4MAT, PACT and Organizational Workshop.
Sam joined the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC as part of the two-person College & University Programs team in December of 2014. He currently serves as faculty at the San Diego, CA campus supporting Societal Advancement business development along with program management and delivery for clients in the higher education sector. Presently, he focuses on standardizing program design, coordination, delivery as well as evaluation efforts for university clients.
Sam holds a B.Sc. in Biology with a minor in Psychology from UC San Diego. He also holds a Masters of Education with foci in Student Affairs and International Higher Education from UCLA, as well as a Masters of Science in Urban Management with a focus on participatory planning from Technische Universität Berlin (Germany).
Sam has affiliations with the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the UN-San Diego Association. As a long-time resident of the San Diego area, he enjoys exploring local community engagement opportunities. In addition he has dedicated some of his time to exploring youth engagement in the international development sector through organization like UN-HABITAT and World Bank.
