Since joining the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), John has worked as research database manager, research scientist, and group director of knowledge management. As director of psychometrics, he was responsible for leading research on the development and use of 360-degree feedback instruments and other leadership assessments used by CCL. John’s research interests include self-other rating agreement, personality assessment, and instrument development. Previously, John worked as internal consultant in organizational development at GlaxoSmithKline, and as director of research for Performaworks, a startup company that provided web-based 360-degree feedback services.
John is a senior faculty member in Research, Innovation, and Product Development at CCL. In this capacity, he conducts instrument development research, focusing on the development of new leadership assessments including customized 360-degree feedback instruments.
John also serves as an adjunct associate professor of psychology at North Carolina State University, where he has taught graduate-level courses in organizational psychology.
John’s PhD is in industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology from North Carolina State University with a minor in human factors engineering.
John is co-author of an article that was selected as the best paper of 1998 by the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management, and he is listed in Who’s Who in the Management Sciences. Additionally, John received a Distinguished Reviewer Award from the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements. He serves on the editorial boards of Leadership Quarterly, Human Resource Management, and the Journal of Business and Psychology, and is the former book review editor of Personnel Psychology. John is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), and a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).
