Ali W. Palmer brings a varied and unique set of educational and life experiences to the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) classroom. Prior to CCL, Ali spent nearly two decades in various industries: healthcare, finance, military, and general services. Most recently, he served as an International Operations Director for DaVita, the largest independent dialysis company in America. In this capacity, he lived and worked in Germany, running multiple clinics with an $8M budget and over 100 employees. Ali also served in a national role with DaVita (as Director of Veterans’ Affairs); and ran 12 domestic clinics with a $45M budget and over 250 employees. Before DaVita, he spent 10 years as an Active Duty Army Combat Engineer. His last assignment was in Baghdad, Iraq, where he was Aide to the Commanding General of the US Army Corps of Engineers Division in charge of the $11.2 Billion Iraqi Reconstruction effort. He spent ~15 months deployed to the Middle East—receiving a Bronze Star for his actions in combat; Ali has served a tour in Germany, and also commanded a company of 75+ military and civilian personnel; he also has training in advanced Infantry tactics, basic/advanced engineer skills, Air Assault operations, and Combined Arms Service Specialties. Ali has also served as a Global Markets Intern for Merrill Lynch & Co, on their Equities & Fixed Income trading floors in NYC.
Ali serves as Senior Faculty for multiple development programs at CCL to include the cornerstone Leadership Development Program, Maximizing Leadership Potential, Leadership Fundamentals, Leading Teams for Impact, and Leadership Essentials, Preparing to Lead Programs, and a variety of specifically-tailored client solutions. In these capacities, he serves both Open Enrollment and Custom clientele that encompass government, for-profit, non-profit, faith-based, public and private institutions. Ali also works on the Center’s digital and virtual training team – focused on designing, delivering, and capability-developing technology and virtual-based leadership solutions for CCL’s full range of global clients. He is certified in a myriad areas of leadership assessment and certification including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, FIRO-BTM Interpersonal Needs Assessment, Workplace Big5TM Profile Trait Assessment, Influence Style Indicator®, Nomadic International Business Psychology© Virtual Facilitation, SkyLine® Technology Certification, and the Hawley-Garcia, Inc. business simulation. Ali speaks three other languages—German, Spanish, conversant Russian (allowing him to support the Center’s Global work), is a certified Engineer in New York State, and has a SECRET government clearance.
Ali received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 2008 where he concentrated on general management and received a Merrill LynchFellowship. He also received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1997 where he was awarded the Superintendent’s Award for military, physical, and academic excellence.
Ali is a member of the Alumni Societies of Atlanta for Harvard University and West Point. He is a Field Force Recruiter for West Point and actively provides counseling and career coaching services to Veterans, college students, and high schoolers in the greater Atlanta area. Ali is also an Army Reservist, serving as a Captain in a Command and General Staff College (Army advanced leadership) unit located in Charlotte, NC.
