With the major league baseball playoffs starting, I thought a lesson I learned in my own softball league may help leaders out there, particularly those who are managing for the first time in their life. One thing the best leaders do is make their employees aware of how important their jobs are to the mission and vision of the team, of the organization, and hopefully society as a whole. The more leaders can draw a line-of-sight to how their employees’ contributions matter to the organization and society, the better. It was a great lesson taught to me after I hit a triple, as detailed in my conversation with Tim. Funny how you can learn a lot about leadership in the strangest of places, even on the softball field. Click on the video to hear more.
