USAID Cites CCL Initiative in Ethiopia
USAID, an American government agency focused on ending global poverty, ranks a CCL initiative in Ethiopia among the world’s Top 5 youth leadership programs.
The agency recently honored CCL’s Leadership and Debate Club program for its groundbreaking efforts to unleash the potential of young women in the country.
The program, which has served more than 400 young women, features a 2-day leadership training program; weekly “lunch and learns” that feature guest speakers; monthly debates with local university students; volunteer service with NGO’s; and three large public debates to provide the young women an opportunity to defend an argument in public in front of a large audience.
The project has grown in just a few years from one debate club with 25 students to 9 clubs with 25 students each, with several mentors assisting each club.
