The Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®), with generous support from Oak Foundation, is building upon its reputation as a top innovator in the field of leadership development to announce the beta release of a cutting-edge suite of digital leadership solutions known as the ValueAble Leader Project.
The ValueAble Leader Project has been tailored to serve youth and young adults, ages 15 to 24, and has been explicitly designed to include many accessibility features that open up new possibilities for the 1 in 5 students with learning differences. This initial release contains two digital solutions: “Exploring My Values,” which helps young people discern their core values and sharpen focus on what is most important to them, and “Building My Leadership Philosophy,” which empowers users to explicitly connect their core values with the practical applications in which they live and lead.
CCL and Oak Foundation value the importance of developing leadership resources for all young people, and recognize that relatively few tools exist in the field compared to the proliferation of resources tailored for adult professionals. Even fewer solutions have been designed with the needs of young people with learning differences in mind.
What is a “ValueAble” Leader?
ValueAble leaders can identify and articulate their values; they understand how to recognize and honor others’ values; and, they make life choices that align with their values and help them grow into the kinds of leaders they want to be. They are resilient, capable, and willing to invest of themselves to support and champion that which they believe in. The ValueAble Leader Project is designed to help emerging leaders identify their values and practice these values so they can make a positive difference in themselves and in the world around them.
Preston Yarborough, CCL senior faculty member and lead designer, says these tools will “help students and young adults generate greater awareness of what their values are and then start envisioning and planning how to put those values into practice.” These solutions empower students by giving them direct access to world-class leadership content, putting them, and those who work with them, in the position to accelerate their own development. This ethos of self-actualization is at the core of the ValueAble Leader Project.
During the initial beta project phase, the ValueAble Leader Project will be released through our partner networks, including organizations affiliated with Oak Foundation, YouthBuild USA, Eye to Eye, the East Carolina University STEPP Program, the Fayetteville State University Bronco STAR Program, and Noble Academy of Greensboro.
Future applications of this work will include the public release of the ValueAble Leader Project for more widely accessible use, as well as a guide for educators to supplement the digital experience with facilitated activities that seek to further debrief and deepen the knowledge transfer of learners engaging with the solutions.
