For executive Lisa DiTullio, Center for Creative Leadership’s (CCL) Leadership Development Program (LDP)® has served as springboard for becoming an internationally recognized conference speaker, published author and thought-leader in her field.
As director of the project management office for New England-based Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, DiTullio was a key player on a turnaround team that helped her company move from the brink of bankruptcy to become ranked by US News & World Report as the #1 health plan in America for three years running. Along the way she garnered significant experience in how effective project management can help a company thrive.
Since she enjoyed public speaking, DiTullio thought Harvard Pilgrim’s story might make a compelling presentation and provide her with new opportunities to stretch her wings.
“It really took the momentum and energy from CCL’s Leadership Development Program to help me get to the next level,” she said. “I created my own personal development plan based on what I learned during the course and sought out opportunities to speak professionally within the project management industry, both nationally and internationally.”
DiTullio said her program experiences were far more powerful than she ever imagined and gave her the information and skills she needed to succeed. She and other LDP participants learned strategies for continuous development through extensive assessment, group discussions, self-reflection, small group activities and personal coaching. A strong focus on development planning linked the program to experiences in the workplace, while 360-degree feedback gave her the ability to clearly understand her strengths, as well as her best opportunities for growth and development.
“The course gave me the real nuts and bolts information I needed to grow my skills as a leader,” she said. “The feedback reassures and reenergizes you around what you’re doing well and helps you identify areas for development. Then it is contingent upon each participant to decide what to do with what they’ve learned.”
What DiTullio decided to do was craft a plan for achieving her dream of becoming a sought-after public speaker. Just three years later, she now has delivered presentations at dozens of conferences and seminars around the globe and is a widely recognized authority in her field. Positive audience reaction encouraged her to capture her story in a book, “Simple Solutions: How ‘Enterprise Project Management’ Supported Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Journey from Near Collapse to #1.”
Using her public speaking and publishing as a springboard, DiTullio recently began a new chapter in her life with the launch of her own consulting firm, Lisa DiTullio & Associates. In that role, she hopes to help her clients establish their own world-class project management teams.
As DiTullio looks back at what she has been able to accomplish in just three short years, she credits CCL’s Leadership Development Program with helping her take her dreams to the next level.
“I absolutely would recommend the program to others,” she said. “This was by far the best leadership development course I’ve taken and offers ongoing, long-term value. It isn’t something to store on a bookshelf and collect dust. Instead, most of what you receive you hold within yourself and use for a lifetime. I found it to be a unique and rich experience.”
