David Altman

David Altman

Title: Executive Vice President, Research, Innovation & Product Development
Career Background: Prior to joining CCL, Dave served as a Professor at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Department of Public Health Sciences, and as a Senior Research Scientist at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Jessica Baltes

Title: Research Associate
Career Background: The focus of Jessica's current work is in the area of evaluation aimed at studying the impact of leadership development programs on teams and organizations. In this role, she works with CCL designers, faculty, staff, managers and external clients to design and conduct customized evaluation processes focusing on Center programs, products, and services in the Leading Teams and Organizations area. She has been with the Center since 1998 and in that time has been a facilitator in the Developing the Strategic Leader, the Community Leadership, and the Leadership and High Performance Teams programs. Prior to joining CCL she held management roles in several manufacturing companies in the areas of quality control and finance.

Phillip Braddy

Phillip Braddy

Title: Psychometrician/Statistician
Career Background: Prior to joining the Center, Phillip taught several courses in statistics and research methods and a course in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at North Carolina State University. He also worked as an external, statistical/psychometric consultant for Kaplan Devries, Inc. Since joining the Center in 2007, Phillip has been responsible for validating 360-degree feedback instruments used in the Center's training programs. In addition, he provides psychometric and statistical support to other faculty members and conducts research in the areas of leadership (e.g., self-other rating agreement, managerial derailment, and political skill) and psychometrics (e.g., comparison of different methodologies for assessing measurement invariance).

Michael Campbell

Michael Campbell

Title: Senior Research Analyst
Career Background: Michael joined the Center for Creative Leadership in 1999 to provide logistical support for a variety of custom clients and open enrollment programs. In 2001, he saw an opportunity to help organizations better understand their internal leadership by providing clients with leadership profiles based on psychometric and 360 degree instruments. Michael became the business manager for CCL's assessment instrument database supporting both client organizations and research initiatives. In 2005, he became involved in CCL's knowledge management initiative to promote the dissemination of organizational knowledge throughout the Center. Michael also contributes to the understanding, practice and development of leadership for senior executives through a variety of research projects.

Heather Champion

Title: Enterprise Associate
Career Background: Prior to joining CCL, Heather worked as a Senior Research Associate for seven years at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Division of Public Health Sciences. There she played a leading role in a variety of complex, multi-site national, program evaluations.

Anand Chandrasekar

Title: Research Associate
Career Background: Anand's career background has had a research and teaching focus. He worked as a research assistant and research intern while pursuing his graduate degree. His research area has been chiefly in cultural intelligence and expatriate adjustment. Given his interests in technology, Anand has been responsible for the design and administration of many on-line surveys. Anand also taught organizational behavior and human resource costing courses at Nanyang Technological University and worked as a teaching assistant several times during his graduate work.

Corey Criswell

Corey Criswell

Title: Research Associate
Career Background: Corey joined the Center for Creative Leadership in 1997. She researches senior executives in the Leadership at the Peak program and manages a component of the program designed to help executives hone their executive presence. Corey is the co-author of the guidebook Building an Authentic Leadership Image.

Alessia D'Amato

Alessia D'Amato

Title: Research Associate
Career Background: prior to join CCL Alessia conducted extensive studies on Organizational Climate and related topics for a variety of public and private organizations, including Telecom Italia, the University of Padova, a section of the Italian Ministry of Justice, the Kent Police (UK) and major hospitals. She was previously at the University of Surrey in the UK, where she served as a Research Fellow and local coordinator of the European Union funded project "Impact of Changing Social Structures on Stress and Quality of Life: Individual and Social Perspectives." She has been published in academic national and international journals and in book series. Since joining CCL at the beginning of the year 2006 she has been involved in Emerging Leaders, Leadership for Corporate Social Responsibility and now Women Leaders, while she still published and presented at conferences on her previous research topics. She has also a deep interest in research methods.

Career Background: Prior to joining the Center, Jennifer was an Instructor at Ohio State, held a number of fellowships, did consulting and was a Post-Doctoral Research Analyst at the Research and Development Center.

Barbara A. Demarest

Barbara A. Demarest

Title: Director, Knowledge Management
Career Background: Barbara joined the Center in 1989 and during her tenure has held a variety of external relations and management positions. From 2001-2006, Barbara served on the Center's senior-most leadership team, reporting to the President as the Chief Communications and Advancement Officer. She was responsible for global communications, fundraising, and CCL's work with nonprofit and education sectors. Prior to joining the Center, Barbara's experience included entrepreneurship - owning and operating a retail store; grant program consulting for the NC Governor's Office; and alumni affairs and development work at Duke University. She is also a freelance writer and product designer outside the field of leadership.

Bill Drath

Bill Drath

Title: Senior Enterprise Associate/Senior Fellow
Career Background: Over the course of thirty years at CCL, Bill established the publications function, founded the periodical now known as Leadership in Action, was on the team that did the research behind CCL's Awareness Program for Executive Excellence, and helped develop the original version of the Looking Glass Experience Program. He has written numerous articles and book chapters and is the author of the book The Deep Blue Sea: Rethinking the Source of Leadership published in 2001 by Jossey-Bass. Bill's current interests involve exploring leadership as a collective activity. He is part of a team at CCL that is framing leadership as an organizational capacity to create direction, alignment, and commitment. He also works in the classroom as a facilitator in the Looking Glass Experience.

Chris Ernst

Chris Ernst

Title: Co-Director, Asia Pacific Research
Career Background: Since joining CCL in 1997, Chris works to advance leadership capacity across global boundaries. As a researcher, he writes and presents frequently on global issues, and is co-author of the book, Success for the New Global Manager: How to Work Across Difference, Countries and Cultures. As a practitioner, he has served in expatriate roles in Asia and Europe, manages and leads multicultural teams, and creates leadership modules and tools for client organizations worldwide.

John Fleenor

Title: Director, Psychometrics
Career Background: Since joining the Center in 1991, John has worked as manager of the assessment database, database administrator of ITG, and as a research scientist. As leader of feedback research at the Center, he was responsible for research development and use of 360-degree feedback instruments.

Bill Gentry

Career Background: Prior to joining CCL, Bill worked at United Parcel Service (UPS) as an organizational effectiveness specialist. While in graduate school he also trained several leadership development programs and worked with UGA's student leadership center.

Kelly Hannum

Kelly Hannum

Title: Manager of Research, EMEA Region
Career Background: Prior to joining the Center Kelly conducted evaluations at a variety of organizations including the Evaluation Center at Western Michigan University, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Institute for Statistical Sciences, and Guilford Technical Community College. Since joining the Center in 1993 she has managed a variety of international research and evaluation projects and recently co-edited The Handbook of Leadership Development Evaluation.

Career Background: Steadman has been with CCL for the past 13 years. He has held a variety of roles during his tenure at the Center, most recently as Innovation Associate in the Knowledge and Innovation Resources Group where he project manages the Center's Innovation Incubator and the Leadership Beyond Boundaries initiatives.

Gina Hernez-Broome

Gina Hernez-Broome

Title: Enterprise Associate
Career Background: Prior to joining the Center, Gina was an associate for a Denver based consulting firm and worked closely with a diverse mix of client organizations, designing and facilitating customized training. In addition, she gained extensive experience designing and implementing various assessment processes including certification processes, assessment center technology, and 360-degree feedback processes. Gina has also held adjunct professor positions at the U or Colorado.

Regina Herzfeldt

Title: Post-doctoral Research Fellow
Career Background: Gina came to CCL Europe from the work & Organizational Psychology group at Aston Business School where she was a Ph.D. student, sessional instructor and responsible for intercultural training at the university level. Her research interests are inherently cross-cultural, centering on aspects of leadership on both the individual and company level. Gina's consulting experiences include organizational change and leadership development projects in the automotive, consumer goods, and food industries in England, Germany and the Netherlands. She also has experience as a consultant for quality management programs in Germany health care.

David Horth

David Horth

Title: Senior Enterprise Associate
Career Background: David's background experience includes 21 years in the computer industry; he began as a research and development engineer and emerged as a strategist specializing in creativity and innovation. During this time, he managed both hardware and software development teams and major technology programs and served as marketing manager and trainer of quality improvement and innovation. Since joining CCL in 1990 David has co-authored the book, The Leader's Edge: Six Creative Competencies for Navigating Complex Challenges and Visual Explorer. David is an accomplished trainer in a range of custom and open-enrollment programs, including the Leadership Development Program (LDP)® and the Looking Glass Experience. His fluency with both the technical and administrative aspects of business is a major asset in his work as a designer, facilitator, and executive coach for senior managers in client organizations.

Shirley Landry

Career Background: Since joining the Center in 1995, Shirley has performed in various roles including Market Research Analyst, Alliances & Partnerships Project Manager, and Stewardship Manager. Prior to joining the Center, she worked in the information technology field for Replacements Limited, in marketing for Abacon Telecommunications, and in purchasing for Volvo Trucks North America. Additionally, Shirley started and manages her own business, Creative Memories.

Jennifer Martineau

Jennifer Martineau

Title: Director, Design & Evaluation Center
Career Background: In this role, Jennifer has the pleasure and honor of representing the fine work of the Center's research, psychometrics, evaluation, and innovation around the world, as well as leading efforts to expand the capacity, capability, and impact of this work. In previous functions at CCL, Jennifer played a foundational role in establishing its evaluation practice through the creation of a 360-degree evaluation assessment, designing and launching and evaluation framework used to guide evaluation studies, and serving as lead evaluator on many leadership development evaluation projects. She led and participated in initiatives aimed at building the Center's design capability and making systemic improvements in the design and development of offerings in CCL's portfolio. Jennifer recently co-edited The Handbook of Leadership Development Evaluation and the second edition of the publication Evaluating the Impact of Leadership Development.

Cindy McCauley

Title: Senior Enterprise Associate/ Senior Fellow
Career Background: Since joining CCL in 1994, Cindy has been involved in many aspects of CCL's work: research, product development, program evaluation, coaching and management. She co-developed two of CCL's management-feedback instruments, Benchmarks and the Job Challenge Profile. She is co-editor of The CCL Handbook of Leadership Development. She has written numerous articles and book chapters for scholars, HR professionals, and practicing managers; and is a frequent speaker at professional conferences.

Belinda McFeeters

Title: Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Career Background: Prior to joining the Center, Belinda supervised a Quality Control department which formulated quality standards and developed quality-monitoring tools to assess efficiency, effectiveness and quality of work. While in graduate school at Virginia Tech, Belinda worked on departmental assessment projects including designing tools to assess student outcomes; trained staff to conduct assessments.

John McGuire

John McGuire

Title: Senior Enterprise Associate
Career Background: John's diverse work history includes senior business management positions in corporate settings, a leadership and organizational development consulting business, and a practice in counseling psychology.
He has held such senior business positions as U.S. Manager of Technology Consulting in a Fortune 50 hi-tech company, Director of Management and Organizational Development in a leading financial services firm, and recently served as Director of Business Development for CCL. In private consultation, John has extensive experience across industries and in private, public and not-for-profit sectors.

Patricia O'Connor

Title: Research Director, Emerging Leadership Practices
Career Background: Prior to joining the faculty in 1998, Patricia served on CCL's management team as Director of Business Development. She brought to the Center ten years of management experience in finance, sales, and human resource functions. She is a member of the Academy of Management.

Chuck Palus

Chuck Palus

Title: Senior Enterprise Associate
Career Background: Chuck began his career as a chemical engineer with the DuPont Company, specializing in polymer systems, with contributions in the areas of optical fibers and reverse osmosis water purification. Responsibility for manufacturing quality assurance kindled his interest in individual and organizational development as the basis for well-rounded performance, and led to a career transition. Palus was awarded a doctorate from Boston College for his research in adult development, where he taught in the business school and the psychology department. He served as program designer and instructor with the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in the areas of professional development, leadership, team building, and adolescent development. These experiences all contribute to his present work as research scientist, program designer, and faculty member with the Center for Creative Leadership.

Tracy Enright Patterson

Tracy Enright Patterson

Title: Manager, Client Evaluation Services, Evaluation Center
Career Background: In her current position at the Center, Tracy works with a diverse group of corporate and nonprofit clients to design and implement evaluations of complex leadership development initiatives. Prior to joining CCL, Tracy worked as a research associate for five years at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in the Department of Public Health Sciences. There she played a key role in a variety of complex, multi-site program evaluations at the national level. She also has 17 years of diverse experience as a manager, evaluator, and program designer in preventive health initiatives. She has worked for the Department of Health and Human Services in Raleigh, NC, the Guilford County Health Department in Greensboro, NC, and the Pan American Health Organization in Washington, DC.

Lyndon Rego

Lyndon Rego

Title: Director, Innovation Incubator
Career Background: Prior to joining the Center in 2002, Lyndon was Director of Marketing for Lipman Hearne, a marketing/communications consulting firm serving education and nonprofit institutions. At Lipman Hearne he managed the firm's marketing and new business programs and provided research, strategy, and communications services for clients such as the University of Chicago, Northwestern University School of Law, MacArthur Foundation, Pew Charitable Trusts, and Burnham Institute for Cancer Research. He also coordinated the annual Integrated Marketing Survey with CASE, which tracks marketing activities and impact at US colleges and universities, and managed WSES, an online study to measure the effectiveness of college Web sites with prospective students.

Title: Director, Americas and EMEA Research
Career Background: Marian is an Industrial Organizational Psychologist who has been at CCL since 1985. She has conducted research on a variety of topics and has published the findings in both scientific and practitioner journals. Marian is the co-author of the book Standing at the Crossroads: Next Steps for High-Achieving Women and co-editor of Diversity in Work Teams. Having held a variety of research and management positions at CCL, Marian has extensive expertise in leadership development and diversity.

Davida Sharpe

Davida Sharpe

Title: Director, Programs and Services Design, Global Product Development
Career Background: Davida has been with CCL since 1994 and in that time has held a variety of roles, including Global Director of the Leadership Development Program and the Foundations of Leadership Program, and as the Campus Director of CCL's Greensboro, North Carolina location. Davida is also a certified feedback coach and has trained a number of CCL offerings over the years. Prior to joining CCL, Davida worked in the broadcast journalism field for ten years with public and commercial television stations. Davida leveraged her journalism and communications experience by developing materials and processes in the area of conflict management and communications for CCL programs. She authored the chapter "Getting A Grip on Conflict" in the book entitled The CCL Guide to Leadership in Action: How Managers and Organizations Can Improve the Practice of Leadership (2004) and co-authored the CCL Guidebook entitled Managing Conflict with Your Boss (2000).

Judith Steed

Judith Steed

Title: Research Associate
Career Background: Before joining the Center for Creative Leadership in 1992, Judith's work experience included teaching/ researching in academic and business settings, working, performing research and data management in the large corporate law and medical research arenas. She particularly enjoys studying the practical results of applying leadership research findings to the classroom and work experience.
Education: Judith's research efforts have spanned the fields of sociology, psychology and philosophy. She completed degrees in philosophy/sociology and an advanced degree in Sociology with a special emphasis in the Social Study of Science at Virginia Polytechnic University and State University.

Ellen Van Velsor

Ellen Van Velsor

Title: RIPD Advancement & Partnerships
Career Background: Since joining the Center, Ellen has held a variety of management roles and has done work in the areas of leadership development evaluation, the use and impact of 360 feedback instruments, gender & leadership development, building resilience, learning from experience, executive derailment, leadership & sustainability, and organizational leadership development. Prior to joining CCL, Ellen was a postdoctoral fellow in adult development at Duke University.

Wynne Whyman

Title: Senior Research Associate
Career Background: Prior to joining the Center in 1996, Wynne taught and designed curriculum at the high school and college level, as well as spent many years designing, delivering, and managing a variety of educational experiences for non-profit groups. Wynne also worked on a DoD project at the White Sands Missile Range.

Meena Wilson

Meena Wilson

Title: Co-Director, Asia Pacific Research
Career Background: Previously, as Interim Managing Director, CCL-Asia, and Director, Asia-Pacific Relations, she completed a special assignment in Singapore where she effectively worked to heighten CCL presence in the region. Meena completed the launch of the CCL-Asia office in Singapore in July 2003. Her responsibilities included: working with a cross-functional and cross-campus teams to open up the new office; develop networks, explore alliances with international partners, and increase understanding of the Asia-Pacific region.

Yi Zhang

Title: Senior Research Associate
Career Background: Prior to joining CCL, Yi Zhang worked at the Grafton College of Management and Science, Ireland as a part-time instructor, at the Management school of Xinjiang University, China as an associate professor, and at the Xinjiang Water Resources Department as an engineer.
