CCL Explores Five Big Ideas for the Future of Leadership

June 2012 - Greensboro, NC - What global leadership trends should executives and managers know about to enhance their own careers and the performance of their organizations?

The Center for Creative Leadership's new annual report offers insights from the leading edge of the field.

Among the key trends explored in the CCL report "What's Next for Leadership? 5 Big Ideas":

  • Get Your Brain in the Game: Advances in neuroscience, such as increased understanding of the connections between stress and brain function, provide insight into how we learn, behave and build long-term resilience.

  • Expand the Leadership Equation: Groups that historically have not received leadership training harbor tremendous potential. In communities, that includes the young and disadvantaged. In business, it's project managers, individual contributors and entry-level talent.

  • Nurture Your Networks: It's not unusual for 5 percent of the people to hold 30 percent of the relationships in an organization. Even fewer hold ties that bridge various roles and functions. And most relationship brokers aren't even formally considered leaders.

  • Power Up Nonprofit Partnerships: Rising demands on the nonprofit/non-governmental sector are not being matched by investments in leadership talent — but partnerships with corporate funders can help change that.

  • Elevate Coaching Impact: A new measurement tool offers companies that invest in leadership coaching something long in demand — data-driven answers on how to employ coaching strategically and effectively.

"Staying on the forefront of leadership development means digging in every corner of the world for insights that drive performance in business, government, education and non-governmental organizations," CCL President and CEO John R. Ryan said. "This report brings several game-changing ideas to life in service of our clients and our mission."
