Nancy Aossey, President and CEO of International Medical Corps wins the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award.
An international non-governmental organization that focuses on relief and development programs, IMC was a start-up with just three employees when Aossey was hired to run it in 1986. Her work has taken her to Angola, Afghanistan, Somalia and other nations in crisis.
"Nancy has been instrumental in building IMC into a highly respected humanitarian agency and establishing it as a leader in crisis response and community building," CCL President John Alexander said. "Her innovative and passionate leadership has had a profound impact on millions of lives throughout the world."
CCL, a nonprofit, educational institution and pioneer in leadership training and research, honors the accomplishments and continuing development of individuals who have taken part in CCL programs with its Distinguished Alumni Award. Aossey attended CCL's Women's Leadership Program in 1995. "The program helped cultivate my skills as a leader, providing me with important knowledge that I can still apply more than a decade later," she said.
An expert on humanitarian relief issues, Aossey has participated in White House briefings and testified before the U.S. Congress. She has appeared on numerous television and radio broadcasts, and her work has been featured in USA Today and other leading media outlets.
