Crisis Leadership: Lessons from the Frontlines was a learning event held at CCL on March 13?15, 2007 to glean lessons about crisis leadership using Hurricane Katrina as the focal point. The forum brought together "frontline" leaders from Hurricane Katrina and experts in public health, terrorism, disaster-related crises, and leadership. The conversation yielded a number of insights about leadership and crisis.

When crises such as Katrina overwhelm the capacity of formal systems and structures, new leadership systems take shape and emergent leaders step into the void, playing critical and improvised roles in rescue and rebuilding efforts. The forum indicates that leadership in mega-crises requires a systemic response that extends beyond the leadership capabilities of any individual or single organization.
