Did you know ...
that choosing the right leadership culture is the difference between success and failure in today's organizations?

Several CCL studies underscore the importance of developing leadership ability — both at the individual level and as a collective cultural activity.

CCL's leadership gap study found that the four most important skills/capabilities needed by organizations in the future — leading people, strategic planning, inspiring commitment and managing change — are among the weakest competencies for today's individual leaders.

At the same time, the nature of effective leadership is changing. CCL's changing nature of leadership research showed that approaches focusing on flexibility, collaboration, crossing boundaries and collective leadership are increasingly more important than the basics of making the numbers.

A third study shows the growing need for boundary spanning leadership. The ever-increasing complexity and interdependence of today's world requires leaders to stop managing and protecting boundaries and, instead, build the capability to create direction, alignment and commitment across boundaries.

These findings suggest that organizations should develop a powerful leadership culture through individual competencies and by fostering the collective capabilities of teams, groups, networks and organizational leadership.
