That leaders who exercise are more effective on the job?
CCL's Fitness and Leadership research shows that regular exercise and effective leadership go hand in hand.
Leaders who exercised regularly were rated significantly higher on leadership effectiveness by their bosses, peers and direct reports than leaders who didn't exercise or who exercised sporadically. Investing time in regular exercise, even if it means working fewer hours, correlates with your being perceived as a more effective leader.
In their book "Managing Leadership Stress," Vidula Bal, Michael Campbell, and Sharon McDowell-Larsen describe the research and share how exercise can help you cope better with the stresses and demands of your position.
COMPLIMENTARY Webinar:
Measuring ROI in Leadership Development
With the economic downturn bringing layoffs and hiring freezes, budget cuts, mergers and consolidations and outsourcing of learning functions, we must show the value of learning and development. Investments in leadership development can improve bottom-line financial performance, help organizations attract and retain talent and drive a performance culture. But we must be able to demonstrate this impact in order to convince the C-level of the value of these investments.
CCL and the ROI Institute are offering a free Webinar from 1 to 2 p.m., August 6, to demonstrate the value of using the ROI Methodology™ to measure the impact of leadership development programs. The Webinar will be followed by a "Measuring ROI in Leadership Development" workshop on September 14-18, on CCL's Greensboro campus. Workshop participants will earn an ROI Certification.
The Webinar and workshop are designed for anyone who needs the skills to measure the impact of leadership development programs. This includes those who need to demonstrate the ROI and business impact of coaching, leadership development, management development, organizational change and executive development. Presenters will be Jack Phillips, chairman of the ROI Institute and Jennifer Martineau, CCL's group director of Global Research.
