Have you ever been frustrated in getting a group to pay attention to something important? What do you do when people talk past each other? Visual Explorer is a versatile method for helping people to listen deeply to each other. It's a way to help people picture their ideas in the form of images, metaphors, and stories. And, it's a way for getting people to pay attention to ideas, emotions, and intuitions. Visual Explorer also supports integration of ideas into bigger pictures.
The Visual Explorer tool itself consists of a loose-leaf deck of 224 color images printed on letter-sized heavyweight paper. The images are quite diverse in content, cultural context, and artistic media (photography, painting, sculpture), and have been selected for their ability to connect literally and (especially) metaphorically with a wide variety of topics.
Visual Explorer and the research behind it is described in Palus and Horth's book Leading Creatively. Visual Explorer is also featured as a tool for organizational change in The Change Handbook, 2nd Ed.
In this session you will:
- Learn what Visual Explorer is, the principles behind it, and when to use it.
- Experience Visual Explorer as a participant in a live online dialogue.
- Hear about examples of diverse applications including new online coaching options.
Maximizing the Value of the Webinar
- Invite others to participate. Structure a group "lunch and learn" session and invite other colleagues to attend.
- Debrief the lessons learned. Set aside time at the end of the Webinar to discuss takeaways, and how they apply to your group or organization
- Tap into your training budget. Ask your HR group or manager to underwrite the Webinar as part of your organization's ongoing staff development effort.
