City Information

Greensboro, now the third largest city in North Carolina, was incorporated in 1808 as a small town of only 42 acres. Often described as a big city in a quiet, small-town environment, Greensboro is thriving with academic, cultural, sports, and recreational activities. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, N.C. A&T State University, Guilford College, Bennett College and Greensboro College all continue to foster the learning atmosphere of the city today.

The city hosts several major companies, including VF Corporation's world headquarters, plus companies such as RF Micro Devices, Syngenta and Unifi. Much of Greensboro's past is maintained in the Downtown Historic District, which includes antique shops, restaurants and city landmarks. Modern Greensboro offers an array of entertainment and cultural events and boasts several theaters, as well as its own opera and ballet companies.

The rolling green lawns of the city's numerous parks or the waters of its three lakes provide residents with many recreational and fitness activities. The Bicentennial Gardens are a longtime Greensboro favorite, with flowers and trees that bring color to the garden all year. The Greensboro Arboretum, a newer feature of the city, offers nine different plant collections within a 17-acre portion of Lindley Park. Residents and visitors who like sports can see the Greensboro Grasshoppers, a Class A Affiliate for the Florida Marlins, play ball at NewBridge Bank Park in April through September. The Wyndham Championship, one of the oldest national PGA Tour golf events, is held in Greensboro every fall at the historic Sedgefield Country Club.
