CCL - Asia-Pacific - Research and Innovation

In 2005, CCL - Asia-Pacific set up a research unit in Singapore to promote further understanding of leadership issues and challenges in Asia. CCL has, for more than three decades, integrated behavioral science research and practical business application. CCL - Asia-Pacific research unit is staffed by seven research professionals with collective experience in Applied Sociology, Human Development, Organizational Development, Industrial Psychology, Philosophy, Business Administration and Cross-Cultural Management. It is the only research facility in Singapore dedicated exclusively to understanding leadership and leadership development.

CCL - Asia-Pacific is seeking organizations and executives throughout Asia who are willing to collaborate with our researchers to explore leadership challenges, leadership effectiveness and leadership development across the region. These research projects will yield new insights and help the Center develop tools and applications that are relevant to Asia's unique leadership needs.

"We are exploring what leaders in this region have learned about effective leadership," says Meena Wilson, the Center's research director for Asia Pacific Leadership. "We also wish to know more about the differences between leaders in Asia and their Western counterparts."

The Center, with the support of the Singapore Economic Development Board recently embarked on three major research studies in Asia. Currently, these studies are actively seeking organizational participation.

Lessons of Experience in Asia - How can organizations in Asia develop leaders and prevent executive derailment? This project aims to learn more about the process by which executives in the region learn, grow and change over the course of their careers. We are partnering and working with many different organizations in Asia to collect data for this research. The attached report presents relevant research findings and implications for leadership development from two Singapore Public Service organizations. (more...) (PDF, 336 KB)

Bridging Cultural Boundaries Through Leadership - This project seeks new knowledge and practical innovations around the question: What types of leadership practices are effective in bridging cultural boundaries in diverse and multicultural work contexts? (more...) (PDF, 175 KB)

Understanding the Leadership Gap - Identifying skills that are essential to effective leadership both now and in the future is one objective of this study. This research also pinpoints the degree to which the essential skills and abilities are present in the leadership ranks. The attached report presents the study's key findings and discusses ways to bridge the leadership gap. (more...) (PDF, 745 KB)

Organizations participating in each project benefit from collaboration with the Center in a variety of ways. A few of the benefits include:

  • Early access to tools and interventions developed out of the research
  • Organization-specific reports that detail project findings
  • Opportunities to share best practices with other organizations and leaders
  • Recognition for participating in the study in various CCL publications and external publications, if desired
